Accessibility"The power of the Web is in its universality. -- Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web Accessibility in the UKIn the United Kingdom the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 requires businesses to make their services available to the disabled. UK government websites are required to meet the the requirements of the WAI's Priority 1 checklist, following guidelines issued by the Office of the e-envoy. EU resolution 6800 encourages Member States to implement the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C's) Web Accessibility Imitative (WAI) guidelines for websites. Accessibility in the USIn the United States, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act requires government websites to be accessible. |
